Following it will let users to keep their pots,jars – hygienic clean, efficient cutting, grinding – due to sharpened blades; & lubrication, last much longer, save time & electric power. Small / Chatni dry grinder
This jar is most commonly used item in the set of 3 jars which come in the box of most common mixers available in the market.

It has a stainless steel container, & matching transparent plastic cap, see variety of containers and caps; which are designed to fit tight on the top of the jar or this cap may come with a rubber gasket, to avoid water leakage. This jar is fitted on some hard plastic or metal alloy base, using internal threads in the body of the jar and matching cap, or stainless steel container is fitted on the base using three small countersunk ss screws, which can be seen from top of the jar, below the blades.The standard steel container and it’s alloy bass, has a soft rubber gasket in the middle to avoid water leakage between them. all types of bases, & jars have same type of Bush and shaft to drive cutting blades. The jar-base has a taper shaped bottom, which exactly sits in the cavity on top of the drive motor. This strong plastic top is specially shaped to allow the jar base to be put in it,& get locked if turned 20 degrees anticlockwise. The jar base can be removed if if it is turned other way round that is- clockwise 20 degrees.
This is a very nice safety feature which holds the jar and base secure with the motor body, while the motor is spinning at high speed. The jar filled with food material semi solid, liquid must be held perfectly secure. Not even by motor vibrations, loose fitting mounting, because of uses carelessness; the jar could jump off or thrown away from the motor coupler. So because of all these safety considerations, the locking facility of the jar base is standard design provided in all mixer body designs.
The dimensions of jar
base are designed to keep the motor center and the jar center exactly in line, & also the space between the motor coupler and the jar coupler, by keeping the height of all components, within limit.
All these components sizes allow the jar base to sit down completely in the cavity of the motor top, and when turned anticlockwise, get locked. The jar coupler and motor coupler allow jar shaft, to get coupled to the motor. slight angular deviation is allowed because of cross plates design of both couplers.
Some mixer manufacturers have designed models which have electrical interlocks, which makes sure, that all containers jars, and covers are properly closed.before the motor is allowed to power up and start.
Moving parts of the jar
The jar base holds- all the moving parts inside. These internal parts are fitted to drive the cutting blades. There is a brass or copper alloy bush bearing made of – sintered = porous = hot pressed metal particles with very fine holes or cavities which can contain oil, to provide lubrication. The bush bearing is in the center of the base, and shaft is held in the bush.. At one side of the shaft, the cutting blades are fitted with a nut on the top.
At the other end jar coupler is fitted. Both sides of this shaft have reversed threads. These threads are reversed to avoid inertial or torque loosening of the blade nut, & jar coupler. There are washers below the cutting blade and about jar coupler to avoid any up and down motion, and to allow necessary freedom, for the shaft to rotate freely. The shaft and Bush is accurately machined for wear free rotation of 10000, to 15000 RPM.=(revolutions per minute.) Like any make mechanical device this Bush shaft must be lubricated,- using edible oils only. Reason is this one machine is going to grind foodstuff, So to avoid food contamination; machine oil, or grease must not be used. Lubricating a jar is very easy if practiced regularly after cleaning.
Importance of cleaning, drying, and lubrication of mixture jars.
Cleaning of any food stuff after completing grinding mixing is compulsory routine.
If it is not done properly, some food substances can remain stuck under the blades and roundabout shaft and Bush. It cannot be easily seen from top but, if kept like that it will surely rot overnight and cause bacterial or similar type of infections. Any kitchen equipment is for our convenience. But health and safety is of prime importance.
In our haste, to save time, if one ignore or hurry up in this vital routine. Apart from health, there are other factors which also show up due to neglect or unnecessarily hurrying. If a mixer jar is not cleaned properly, previous flavors of foods can remain under the cutting blade and get mixed up with new incompatible flavors.unclean, unlubricated bush /shaft can corrode, means – become rusty, then get jammed up, causing total stop of work, at the time of need , and further waste of time,money, to repair it.
To permanently avoid all these multi nuisances, anyone can develop habit of opening up jar’s bush shaft, washing it thoroughly in soap and water, then dry it completely, using a clean dry cloth. This drying eliminates all rusting, jamming problems. Next is putting one drop of edible oil in the bush and one drop of same oil on the shaft. Then assemble it together. Habit of regular opening and assembly after oiling will facilitate further ease of opening and assembly.
For cleaning and lubricating it is necessary to disassemble the jar components. This is explained below.
Dis-assembling a jammed jars–
1) chutney dry grinder type.
& videos , for clear understanding, — You must stop blades from moving, because you want to unscrew the jar coupler which is inside the jar’s base. Hold the blade from top firmly,- using a strong flat nosed pliers, or use a strong cloth to protect the sharp edges of cutting blade. You must stop blades from moving. You can use your left hand fingers if you don’t have pliers; but take care, use a piece of strong,thick cloth, to protect your fingers. Now, with your right hand fingers and thumb, hold the motor coupler, in the jar bottom, & turn it clockwise, by pressing the coupler’s drive plate using your thumb. Because threads on the shaft and underside the coupler nut are always manufactured reverse threads. You must earn it- clockwise.. Make sure you turn clockwise only, not the other way, otherwise you will be jamming up, further tightening up the coupler on the shaft. Use force because it may be quite tight,/ very tight,/ jammed up on the shaft.. If you find it is hurting your thumb,. especially ladies, you must not try further beyond your safe limit. There is a safe way out. You need to use another pliers, like, long handled monkey or pump plier to turn the coupler.
Instructions on how to hold a pump / monkey pliers
The pump or monkey player has two long rods to be used as handles to hold. Because of their length, they can generate tremendous leverage force, much more than enough to grip, & remove the coupler. Be sure it can multiply force applied by your palm. They are much different in their design. See photos. in comparison with ordinary pliers, these pliers have adjustable hinge, capable of increasing jaw size according to requirement. because of this facility a pump pliers can hold, and force grip, small to much larger sizes of things compared to ordinary players with fixed jaws. materials used for manufacturing these players are usually also very superior as chrome-vanadium,or drop forged steel. Due to these materials, pump pliers are known to be indestructible, unbreakable. however hard you press, handles of these pliers may flex a little, but cannot break and consequently apply tremendous grip on the item material held in their jaws. because of all these qualities this players can force open any jammed up nut/ bolt with ease. I am praising these tools to make you confident about its effect to help you remove very tight jar coupler easily.
However even if we have very good, best tools we must have the knack / trick / skill, of using it absolutely accurately. Anyone who wants use something new, one must learn understand all the details of using it. then some trial practice should be done using it.
See all photos of how to hold a pump pliers. These pliers are highly adjustable, due to multi- adjustment lockable hinge positions, near their Jaws.. Every position gives different.width of jaw size, while, the space between the two handle rods remains same. While trying to adjust the jaws to the work to hold, effect on the space between the two long handles must be checked. This space is very important, because it must fit in user’s palm, and allow him to apply force. If this space becomes too small, or too large, user is definitely unable to hold this handles in his palm. So while adjusting pump pliers jaws the user must watch, and adjust the position of both jaws, & and space between the handles. at the same time. and make himself comfortable and confident about holding both rods / handles, to drive, apply leverage force.
Instruction on properly griping all parts off the mixture jar
So, First,be sure, you are holding the cutting blades, inside the container,with the left hand securely. because further, when you apply counter- force on the coupler, through the pump pliers, all the force applied by the pump pliers , will be felt on the left hand fingers. So this blade side must remain steadfast unmovable. If you feel it is too much for your fingers, then you must use a flat nose pliers to hold the cutting blades at the center, taking care not to damage their cutting edge’s sharpness by covering them with thick cloth or some wooden pieces. Make sure of everything properly gripped, & then hold the coupler in the properly adjusted jaws of the pump pliers, It is very important to properly adjust the jaws of the pump pliers to fit, grip, the outer diameter of the coupler. Because, as explained above, for holding the coupler, if you keep too much space/ distance between the two levers, you will not be able to hold both levers with proper distance for your palm to hold& press them absolutely firmly. ( See photos ) & force it, leaver it, to turn clockwise. If you find it tight, apply leverage further. Don’t be afraid. Hold the pliers properly tight as shown in the picture, and press without allowing it to move sideways or slip further, Keep applying leverage. It is made of hard plastic or rubber so even if it breaks while you try to force it to turn,/ open, you can replace it, with new one. If you are done the gripping properly, It will surely come loose. When it turns a 1/2 a turn, keep the pliers down and must further turn the coupler, by your fingers to remove it. If it still does not move at all,and producing too much pressure on your left hand fingers which you are using for holding the blades, use alternative method of holding blades. if you are unable to turn the coupler, it could be extremely tight, rusted, jammed. If, after all this you don’t feel confident to be able to turn it, even by using a pump player, you have an option. These couplers are not expensive. as a suggested above, better if you keep a few spare couplers ready. So go ahead and break it. Yes. Then you have to break it. It’s alright, because you must remove it to repair the problem.one. It is always better to keep a spare coupler ready of same type, before you try to open. They are available quite cheap at at mixer parts dealer shops.
Instructions how to to hold and brake and totally seized rusted jammed coupler
You hold it in the pliers grip from sideways, apply force outwards, downwards, to break it in two pieces. . When broken plastic pieces are removed, you will find a square nut at the center of the broken coupler. Hold it in the pliers, & turn it clockwise. Now it will surely come out. You will see a spring & one or two washers below. Remove them & keep in some small container, to keep them safe. Note the sequence how they were in their place.
Instructions on removing rusted jammed up shaft & bush
Now as a coupler is removed, you can try pulling top nut with the blade & shaft, out of the bush bearing.The shaft must come out of the bush. If you find it tight,carefully heat both sides of the jar, on a small gas flame, apply few drops of heated coconut oil, or some hot edible oil, for gradually making the material of container expand due to heat, & let oil to penetrate, in between the bush and the shaft. From the blade side, Grip the nut holding blade,& shaft firmly, & turn the anti- clock wise,to turn it, & force it out. Do not turn clock wise , because, that way the nut will come loose, & out with the blade.You don’t want that. try holding the blades in a thick cloth, & by holding the round pliers, try turning it while you are pulling out. Now if the shaft, rotates, turns, & comes out, it’s alright, but , if the jammed shaft still remains stuck in the bush bearing, it may be badly rusted and expanded itself, making it really impossible to remove it. Then you must first, remove the blade. Turn the nut-now,clock-wise, to remove it, only clockwise, When the nut comes out, you can remove the blade & clearly see reason why the shaft was stuck in the bush – bearing, — you will see rusty / sticky shaft. now, it must be removed and new bush and shaft fitted. To remove the shaft, we need to press it out or hammer it out of the hole made for mounting it in the jar base. . while hammering we have to take care not to damage,break, the base of the container, which holds the bush. so we need to support it using a tube around the bush,( See photos ).Get about 4 inches long piece of half inch diameter steel water pipe. The bush with shaft inside must go in the internal diameter of the pipe, for supporting the base plate Hold for pipe straight on some hard surface, then as said above, to support the base surface, insert the shaft and bush in the pipe,& hold the pipe straight,& flat against the surface around the bush. Carefully holding both the pipe and the pot, use a bolt of slightly smaller diameter then the internal diameter of the bush. When hammered on top center of the rusted shaft, if the shaft is loose enough it will be driven straight down, through the bush. If it is too much jammed, rusted, & expanded, because of rust, it will drive the bush also,along with it. now you may take all the removed components to a mixer part dealer, show him samples, & buy exact replacement of damaged components. Instructions on cleaning disassembled parts
Now clean all usable old parts, including the container jar and base, using soap water, stainless steel wool scrubber, some cloth. Never use an emery / sand paper or any cleaning soap powder containing some stone/ abrasive powder, or any other tool to scrape these two mating surfaces = The shaft & the bush bearing. . Using emery paper, rough powder will surely wear out, roughen running surfaces of those parts, causing play = too much space =gap between bush & shaft, as it spins at very high speed. So after removing rust,stickiness using some some liquid soap, rinse these parts under clean running water, Make sure there is no grit / dirt on them. Dry them using clean cloth. Same way clean & dry washers & spring. If you find it too rusty, don’t bother cleaning them. It is better to replace them.
Instructions on sharpening blades
Now check sharpness of blades. If you fine it blunt, it can be sharpened. Use some small file or grinding stone to sharpen cutting edges. Sharpening will enhance performance of the blade spectacularly.It will grind / cut food very fast / quickly.
Instructions on assembly and lubrication
Clean blade & put a washer under the blade on the shaft. To lubricate shaft & bush, strictly use some edible oil. Never use any machine oil, it will be hazardous to health. Put only one drop of edible oil on the shaft & two drops in the bush. Insert the lower end of the shaft in the bush from top side of the pot. Invert the pot & put one drop of edible oil at the lower end of the bush,put back lower washer & spring as it was. Now put the coupler on the shaft threads , by pressing the spring. Turn the coupler anticlockwise, again hold the blade retainer nut in the pliers, without damaging the sharp edges & tighten the coupler. you don’t need to tighten to meet because anyway the mixer grinder, will tighten it, by rotational force. Assembly is complete. Check it’s smoothness by rotating the pot / blades.To check the pot for water leakage, put water in it & observe if any water comes down. If it dose not leak, pot has passed test. If it leaks, bush &shaft must be replaced.
